Excitement, fun, calculation, planning, radio communication and surf launching is just some of the things that come to mind if you think of the small boat handling and surf launching course.

The course is a South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) approved course and you will be a category B or C skipper with surf launching in South Africa and/or Mozambique. 

Course Outline

  • The course consists of theoretical and practical training over a period of 5 days.
  • You will complete all the theory in between the practical sessions and complete at least 12 surf launches.

The following topics are covered during the course:   

  • Surf Launching
  • Small Craft handling and launching
  • Radio procedures
  • Basic first aid
  • Navigation at sea
  • Safety and other equipment
  • Skipper duties, responsibilities and safety afloat
  • Boat design and layout
  • Diving from small crafts and commercial practices
  • Outboard motors
  • GPS and Fishfinder use
     
    Prerequisites

    There are no prerequisites but you need to be 16 years old.

What's needed?
The course does not include any accommodation or meals.

Q: Can I launch my own boat during the course
A:
We use our own boat which is equipped for the training but once the course is completed you can arrange for a launch with your own boat.
